iM's spaceMay 07 HTC touch DiamondIf this is anything like the first HTC touch, not sure that I'm really looking forward to the UX on this particular device. Although HTC is touting many improvements to the overall interface and usability, especially the touch aspect, they still can't claim to go head2head with the iPhone. We'll see when I can get my hands on one of these...hold tight.
Talking about Fortune: AT: Tech Ticker, Yahoo! Financeso now would you buy one?!?! talk about slap in the face again for current iphone users... Fortune: AT: Tech Ticker, Yahoo! Finance February 29 Week One almost doneAlmost through my first week in Redmond, Kirkland, Seattle - whatever you wanna call it. Can't complain because the weather has been great! Really have to rub it in to the folks back home - the weather has been great! about 10 degrees and sunny :) Settling in ok - bank account, mobile phone, gym membership all setup....so things are progressing. All I need is a car now which is easier said then done w/o any US credit history :( Ah well, sure i'll figure something out... Nonetheless, I made the trip down to the city yesterday to check out the Seattle Sonics game - unfortunately, a terrible team, a brutal stadium and a poor overall experience at least in comparison to a Raptors game...but hey, thanks JV for the invite! Can't complain about sitting 11 rows up from the court :) The Sonics were playing Iverson, Mello & Martin and absolutely had their asses handed to them! Some shots of the Space Needle from outside the Key Arena. February 24 Welcome to Seattle....The journey finally begins. Despite all the words of advice I received regarding crossing the border with a Visa, it was relatively simple - thank god no rubber fist...great success! And thankfully the flights were great getting over here, in fact, we got in half an hour early. only to find out that 2 out of 3 pieces of my luggage didn't arrive...something just had to go wrong. Apparently, on my connector through Chicago, some goof at United made the decision to hold my luggage and put it on another flight - makes sense right? After numerous calls to United Airlines, i finally received my luggage this morning. So I'm based in Kirkland..... ......about 10 minutes away from Microsoft campus, and about 20 minutes to downtown Seattle. For those living back home, its like living in downtown Oakville, except much better...sorry for the cheap shot :) I'm about a 5 minute walk to Lake Washington which is pretty cool (at least from what I can see so far)....I've included some pics of the view from my balcony.. Made it out to the community mosque last night - that was definitely refreshing. Met a bunch of fellow "Microsofters" within the community who I previously met when I came down for my interviews....went out for some Sushi at Rikki Rikki in Kirkland....some really good eats.... So now what? Orientation tomorrow and Tuesday and then the rest of the week off to settle in.... some pics take today at Lake Washington... Keep you posted... Miss you guys back home! iM January 05 An Islamic Conscience: The Aga Khan & The IsmailisFor those who really don't know who the Aga Khan is, who are the ismailis, and what they're all about, this documentary is definitely worth seeing. It features some great footage and depicts the ismaili history and how it has shaped them and their philosophies. This aired on Vision TV last night as part of the inspirational leaders week (www.visiontv.ca). The Story | The Aga Khan December 19 My message to the ASHL - Adult Safe Hockey League - after last weeks' gameHi Jim, My name is Imtiaz Jaffer and I play for the Meemo Marauders and was on the ice during the incident that took place last week. I was also one of the players who stood aside while the incident occurred and chose not to get involved in the fights that took place. Let me first refer to your message posted on the ASHL website: “Individuals are expected to treat all other participants (including League Managers, on/off-ice officials and operations staff) with respect at all times. Persons and/or teams, who choose to act in a manner that contravenes the rules, or places other participants at risk, will be dealt with in an appropriate manner which may include extended or permanent suspension for all ASHL activities in the future.” 1. I’d like to specifically refer to the underlined component above regarding “placing other participants at risk”. How in the world do you expect to conduct a SAFE HOCKEY LEAGUE when many of the players are drinking and “smoking up” prior to games??? This is the root cause of many of the problems that occurred on ice last week. It’s similar to driving – every drink you have prior to doing so impairs your judgment and its no different in this scenario. How can you expect to make the right decisions under the influence? I can confidently attest with almost 99% accuracy that none of our players drink prior to our games. However, with almost the same accuracy, I can attest to smelling alcohol, specifically beer, on many of our opponents in previous games, along with many of the players on the Brew Crew (the team we played last night) – ironic team name to say the least. 2. I’d like to refer to “treating on-ice officials with respect” at all times. What is your enforcement policy here when the goalie for the Brew Crew decides to throw his helmet and gloves off as a show of disgust in front of the referees – not to mention his breath also smelled like beer too! That was no show of respect whatsoever and should have been dealt with accordingly. I ask that you consider the above before referring to yourselves an ADULT SAFE HOCKEY LEAGUE. What kind of example are you setting by letting this happen? This is a 30+ division we play in and I would expect people would act their age, and its obvious they don’t. A poor example for the youth and families of those associated to those on ice. Live by the words posted in your message otherwise these kind of incidents will continue occur. Its good the media didn't catch wind of this otherwise that would have created numerous problems for the league. However, future incidents of the kind won't sit too well with those on ice and could be much worse to deal with in the future. July 05 Ten commandments of cell phone etiquette...
